In my search to understand the Bible more completely I came to the realization that I don't even know if the translation I am reading is correct. In order to debate or know something to be true you must have a foundation of that truth. The reason I say this is if you look at the different translation we have that are considered acceptable today by most they have different wording that suggest different things and sometimes completely different meanings.


For example:

1 John 5:7-8

KJV - For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.

Now this seems somewhat straight forward. As you can tell father, word and holy ghost are capitalized emphasizing that they are names. This verse seems to be a champion for the trinity. Saying the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost are one. The second verse only capitalizes spirit. Now reading this would you not say awesome trinity verse.


Now lets look at:

ASV - And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is the truth. For there are three who bear witness, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and the three agree in one.

Because these two are somewhat different it seams that one must be in error at least somewhat. Reading the inter chapter can give you the knowledge that John is trying to portray that God himself testifies to the validity of Christ being his son, the only true way to God, and that if you love God you will also love Christ. It also speaks of praying for Gods will in your life. If it is Gods will be assured he will grant it.

So now we must embark on our quest to understand a true translation and how we can know the truth of are translation.
